The National Association of Women Artists was founded in 1889. It is the oldest professional women's fine arts organization in the United States. It serves professional women artists of all backgrounds and traditions. It is a not-for-profit, tax-exempt organization. The purpose of the National Association of Women Artists [NAWA] is to foster public awareness and interest in the visual arts created by women in the United States. It encourages contemporary and emerging artists while continuing to honor the long and important contribution of women to the history of American culture and art.

Founded in 1995, the NAWA Florida Chapter extends the mission of the National Association by providing highly visible Florida venues, designing art education opportunities for its members and promoting art education to Florida communities.

Message From NAWAFL President

NAWA Florida Chapter members,

Our first annual all-member meeting on October 2, 2023 was a great success. Since the foundation of our work as volunteers is gratitude, I’d like to celebrate my sisterhood of creative visual artists, and take a moment to honor those members of the board that work so hard all year to make our FL chapter the success it is today.

Thank you, Muffy, for reaching out to venues, synchronizing our exhibition coordinators, the venues, all the back and forth with the contact person, the prospectus, the looking at new venues, the phone calls, the details and so many more details.

Thank you, Katherine, Sara, Pat, Karlene, Ann, Roberta, Muffy and Anabel for approaching new venues to ask them if they’d consider our group for an exhibition then following it through for the opportunities we are enjoying.

Thank you, Joanna, for the hours of keeping our books straight with incoming and outgoing moneys. We appreciate your balance between your right and left brain.

Thank you, Judy, for keeping our membership on track with how many members are paid, how many are not and keeping it all straight with new members coming in. This is your busy season and we appreciate your organizational skills.

Thank you, Beth, for putting our minutes together so that we have accurate records of the discussions we’ve had and the decisions we’ve made.

Thank you, Patrice, for looking over our contracts and artist prospectus and making sure we are in line with our national office and protecting the rights of our artists.

Thank you, Pat, for being our corresponding secretary and making sure we come across as the professionals we are in our press releases for our exhibitions.

Thank you, Shirley, for keeping the physical historical information organized and archived for us.

Thank you, Fran, for helping us understand the importance of a critique group and for helping us to navigate a new direction for our scholarship program.

Thank you again Anabel & Roberta for the work you do in coordinating our artist workshops.

Thank you Helene for all your work on the graphics we need for our exhibitions and the rack cards this year.

Thank you Annette for training and for updating our NAWAFL website.

Thank you, Jill & Christie, for coming to our meetings and supporting us every month.

I so appreciate you all and would not be able to do the work I do without each and every one of you.
